The following Dress Code Policy was established to maintain a safe and appropriate learning atmosphere at VNHS. It is the role of all VNHS staff to assist in the encouragement and enforcement of this policy.
SAFETY
In our continuing effort to maintain a safe environment for all of our VNHS community, we insist that students refrain from wearing clothing that is associated with a gang, crew, posse, or other outside group.
The clothing ban includes the following:
- Colored rags or bandannas that are worn on the head or hanging from the pocket.
- Doo Rags/Wave caps.
- Wide oversized pants and pants worn below the hips (sagging).
- Long shorts worn with high knee socks.
- Belt buckles with single or multiple letters that typically indicate an affiliation.
- Hats or caps that are not official VNHS sports caps.
- Any use of straight pins or rubber bands to hold down the pant legs.
- Any type of spikes on clothing or jewelry.
- Heavy (dog) chains used to attach wallets or simply as decorations.
APPROPRIATE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
Van Nuys High School is dedicated to providing a quality learning environment for all of our students. The following clothing ban is designed to maintain an appropriate and professional atmosphere at VNHS.
The clothing ban includes the following:
- Tank tops or sleeveless undershirts.
- Clothing designed to be primarily used as undergarments.
- Clothing or jewelry with profanity or drug culture sayings or emblems.
- Shirts or pants that are overly revealing such as bare midriff blouses, low cut and/or backless blouses/dresses or very low cut pants.
- Tube tops or strapless and spaghetti strap dresses/tops.
- Very short shorts or skirts/dresses including long slits on skirts/dresses.
Please be aware that faculty and staff will make the final determination of acceptability of clothing in all circumstances.
Students in violation of this policy should be sent to the deans’ office for corrective action. |
