Parent Center
The Parent Center of Van Nuys High School extends a warm welcome to our incoming ninth grade students and their families. We look forward to working with you and providing you with support and assistance.Parenting Skills Classes: Tuesday, 8:30-11:00 am. The classes are twelve weeks long and are conducted in Spanish. At the conclusion of the twelve-week session, participants will receive a diploma. These classes are designed to help parents develop skills to enable them to meet the basic obligations of family life and emphasize the importance of education and learning. Childcare Training Courses: Thursday, 8:30 � 12:30 p.m. Free course in Spanish, you learn how to obtain your state license get two certificates from American Red Cross in First Aid & CPR. Parent Project: Thursday, 6:30 p.m. Free workshop specially designed for parents with youngsters that are strong-willed and out of control. English Learners Advisory Council (ELAC) and compensatory Education Advisory Council (CEAC) meetings: The ELAC & CEAC meets every fourth Tuesday of the month at 6:00 p.m. The meetings are held in the Library. These councils offer parents the opportunity to participate in helping to craft ideas and programs for the school. Notices are mailed home prior to each meeting. Phone reminders are also made. Medical and Healthy Families Enrollment Social workers from Medical and Healthy Families come once a month to the Parent Center to enroll students who do not have insurance.
